SOFTWARE
There are quite a few software packages designed for virtual conferencing/ video conferencing. Basic products function as one way systems whereby the presenter shows, and participants watch, an online demonstration. There are also industry based online training products which are specific to a certain field.At the other end of the scale there is some amazing software that offers a large range of tools for conducting presentations and engaging participants. Some well known products are Centra, WebEX, HorizonLive, and Elluminate. Of these, Elluminate is perhaps the most popular and is one of the better video conferencing software products. It includes tools such as VoIP (Voice over the Internet Protocol), a chat utility, instant polling, web touring, desktop application sharing, a whiteboard, and session archiving.
There is also am amazing new product called Alice
Street Conference Centre which allows users enter
an interactive 3D virtual meeting room in which they see
each other as well. It allows users to hold a meeting with
other people in a "conference room"
environment which is completely simulated in virtual 3D
space. Participants appear as little talking heads around a
business meeting table; to see a PowerPoint
presentation being shown in the Conference
Center users can turn to the right and look at a wall
screen, while to discuss with other participants, you can
turn to them and initiate a conversation.
